The Woodhouse Farm Cottages are close to the ancient and picturesque market town of Ledbury and a few minutes from the Malvern Hills. This is the ideal place from which to explore the three counties of Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucester, the Cotswolds and Shakespeare’s country.
Within two and half hours of London and Manchester and hidden down a long drive, we are just five minutes drive from direct rail links to Oxford and London, Birmingham and Hereford, where connections can be made to the West Coast line from South Wales to Manchester. The M50 is only ten minutes away which allows for excellent access to the M5 and the motorway network.
Hidden among cider orchards and a few hundred yards from an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this former farmstead occupies one of Herefordshire’s most charming spots.
The three cottages are set within fifteen acres of grounds belonging to The Woodhouse, a Grade II* listed, part-moated medieval hall house. Converted to a very high standard from existing farm buildings, Barn Croft was a calf house attached to a stone stable with loft above and The Wainhouse provided for the storage of wagons. The private gardens of each are south-facing and sunny, with garden furniture and barbecues; Barn Croft garden overlooks the moat with its water-lilies, yellow and blue irises and rushes which provide a habitat for a variety of wildlife.
Close by are the gardens of Hampton Court, and the National Collection of Michaelmas daisies or further afield are Hidcote and Kiftsgate in the Cotswolds.
Visit the Marcher castles, Hereford Cathedral, the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library. There are other ancient cathedrals and churches, museums and great houses such as Berrington Hall, Eastnor Castle and Witley Court. The local black and white villages are well worth visiting.
If gastronomy whets your appetite, this area has plenty to offer. There are vineyards, cider apple orchards, cheese makers and ice-cream makers and even hand-made chocolates from Ledbury. The area now has a number of micro breweries producing an interesting selection of ales.
Perhaps you might enjoy the Races at Cheltenham, Hereford or Ludlow, or grass boarding, the choral music of the Three Choirs Festival or the Jazz Festival at Upton. Whatever your interests, you are sure to be able to indulge them from here.
We look forward to welcoming you to the peaceful retreat that is...
